Recommended for hydraulic networks, Eluma copper tubes can collaborate in preventing diseases

A study group investigates solutions against the legionella bacteria

(3/20/2017) In residential, commercial or industrial facilities, copper is the best material for use in hydraulic network pipes, both for cold and hot water. Eluma’s copper tube, besides having high mechanical and corrosion resistance, it withstands high temperatures and has excellent thermal conductivity, which ensures lower energy consumption for water heating and sealing when pipes undergo high temperatures.

Copper can also be an important ally in preventing disease. A study group of the Brazilian Committee of Civil Construction (CB 02 ABNT) is debating the legionellosis prevention associated with water distribution systems in buildings. The group works to draw up a technical standard to provide requirements for the installations not to have conditions for the development and proliferation of Legionella bacteria, which naturally can be present in water or damp soil, but if it is inhaled with water droplets, it can cause respiratory diseases, including severe pneumonia.

Copper allows the installations to maintain water in conditions unfavorable for the development of Legionella, for example, ensuring the system tightness at a temperature above 50°C. The copper melting temperature is 1083°C. When applied to soldering, it withstands 180°C to 250°C and, when it is applied to brazing, it withstands 649°C to 825°C, depending on the type of solder used.

It is worth remembering that Eluma copper tubes are 100% Brazilian, produced with DHP phosphorous copper, alloy C12200 (copper 99.90% minimum and phosphor 0.015% minimum – 0.04% maximum) in accordance with standard NBR 13206 and NBR 14745, using as raw material Paranapanema’s high purity copper (99.99%), unique in the country made by the electrolysis system in the plant of Dias Dávila (BA). And Eluma connections, which contribute to a perfect fitting system, in accordance with the standards ABNT NBR 11720 and ABNT NBR 15277, also produced with alloy C12200 and in bronze in the alloy C84400 (copper 78-82%, tin 2.3-3.5%, lead 6.0-8.0%, zinc 7.0 to 10.0%) containing Paranapanema super pure copper.

For containing smooth surfaces, copper hinders the proliferation of Legionella, which in addition to preferring porous materials, they grow in environments with the presence of silicone and derivatives, which does not occur in Eluma’s tubes and connections.
