Paranapanema promotes activities in honor of World Environment Day
With activities involving employees and communities, the Company reinforces its role in raising awareness for environmental protection
(06/16/2016) The World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5. The date was set by the United Nations in 1972 during a conference in Sweden. The date aims to draw the attention of the entire population to environmental problems and the importance of preserving natural resources, which at that time were considered by many inexhaustible.
To mark the date, between 1 and June 10, Paranapanema held a series of talks with its employees, covering topics such as the importance of water and the correct disposal of chemical waste. In addition, promoted the planting of trees jenipapo, sabotages and wood pigeon in Dias d’Ávila (BA) and the distribution of white fig seeds and umbaúba to employees of Serra (ES) and Utinga (Santo André – SP) units.
Paranapanema has reuse stormwater system in Utinga (Santo André – SP) with a storage capacity of about six million liters. Rainwater is recovered by galleries, directed to a central pond and subsequently pumped into the industrial water treatment plant to ultimately be incorporated into the recycled water. Along with industrial waste water and sewage, also treated, the reuse of the production process water in the Utinga unit reaches 94% of the needs of the manufacturing process. In 2015, 867.34 million liters, volume proportional to the total of 324 Olympic swimming pools were recovered.
The Company also has selective collection and solar energy system for water heating in the dressing rooms of employees in units of Serra and Utinga. In addition, recycles annually about 70 thousand tons of copper scrap and prioritizes the cabotage system (next navigation the coast between the same parents ports), which emits less CO2 – only in 2015, this logistics mode helped Paranapanema stop issue nearly 13 tons of carbon dioxide.
