Environmental Team promotes course for Environmental Agents in Dias d’Ávila

A group formed by residents and representatives of the communities neighboring Paranapanema in Bahia reviewed concepts and visited the plant

(02/23/2017) On February 20 and 21, the Paranapanema Environmental Agents group of Dias d’Ávila participated in a course to recycle concepts, as well as to learn about all the controls used by the company in reducing its impacts. The group is formed by residents and representatives of the communities neighboring the plant located in Bahia.

Coordinated by the Environmental team of the plant, the training dealt with issues such as environmental legislation, smelting process and production of sulfuric acid, equipment and control procedures, and the communication process between Paranapanema and the community. The group could also get a closer look at the plant’s industrial area by means of a guided tour.

Created in 2001, the Environmental Agents Program aims to share technical and environmental knowledge with members of the communities of Leandrinho, in Dias d’Ávila (BA), and Lamarão do Passé, in São Sebastião do Passé (BA), through an annual program with trainings, events, visits, meetings and engagement actions with students and other community members.<0}

Paranapanema’s primary copper unit, located in Dias d’Ávila (BA), within the Camaçari Industrial Complex, is responsible for the smelting and refining of electrolytic copper under the Caraíba brand, copper semi-finished metallurgy and co-product production. It has more than 500 thousand m², with 90,342 m² of constructed area. The plant works in the smelting and refining of primary copper by the pyrometallurgical process, producing cathodes, rebar, drawn wire, sulfuric acid, oleum, iron silicate and anodic mud, from which precious metals are extracted.
